Dear Daughter:

As we drove off from Columbia, I wanted to write a letter to you to tell you all that is on my mind.

First, I want to tell you how proud we are. Getting into Columbia is a real testament of what a great well-rounded student you are. Your academic, artistic, and social skills have truly blossomed in the last few years. Whether it is getting the highest grade in Calculus, completing your elegant fashion design, successfully selling your painted running shoes, or becoming one of the top orators in Model United Nations, you have become a talented and accomplished young woman. You should be as proud of yourself as we are.

It’s very easy to forget to relax during our hectic days and nights, during the time when we’re constantly trying to get things done. So many of us are spending so much time on our jobs and our extra tasks in life that we tend to forget to slow down and reassess what we’re doing and why.

So take a deep, slow breath. No, really–go ahead. Take a deep, slow breath, taking in as much air as you can as slowly as you can. Feel your lungs fill, and then hold the breath for five to ten seconds.

The letter to father
Dear Dad,

Today I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time reading the Father’s Day cards. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet as I selected and read, and selected and read again, it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you.

You’ll soon be 84 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 55 Father’s Days together. I haven’t always been with you on Father’s Day nor have I been with you for all of your birthdays. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to be with you. I’ve always been with you in my heart but sometimes life gets in the way.

I used to watch her from my kitchen window, she seemed so small as she muscled her way through the crowd of boys on the playground. The school was across the street from our home and I would often watch the kids as they played during recess. A sea of children, and yet to me, she stood out from them all.

I remember the first day I saw her playing basketball. I watched in wonder as she ran circles around the other kids. She managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net. The boys always tried to stop her but no one could.

Happy Birthday(生日快乐...)

Happy Birthday to ME…

Good day, and welcome to the world of today! The world has never been quite the same as it is on this day, and you never have been just the same person that you are today. I hope that the day is kind to you and that you’re able to recognize and appreciate the kindness, and then pass it on to others!

Family is precious, with parents by our side, life has a beginning.

Love is eternal, hand in hand, life becomes everlasting.

Sentiment is completion, with children laughing and playing, life becomes whole.

Friendship is sincere, with friends together, our life gets its color.

Every single day, there is feeling saved up at bottom of our heart, and it would brew up into a strong emotion on this special day.

As the essence of happiness becomes more realizable at this time of life, I wish you a happy birthday and hope that you will have everlasting happiness in your life!

cold cold heart

i tried so hard my dear to show
that you’re my every dream
yet you’re afraid
each thing i do is just some evil scheme
a memory from your lonesome past
keeps us so far apart
why can’t i free your doubtful mind
and melt your cold cold heart

another love before my time
made your heart sad and blue
and so my heart is paying now
for things i didn’t do
in anger unkind words are said
that make the teardrops start
why can’t i free your doubtful mind
and melt your cold cold heart

there was a time when i believed
that you belonged to me
but now i know
your heart is shackled to a memory
the more i learn to care for you
the more we drift apart
why can’t i free your doubtful mind
and melt your cold cold heart

“Search for a perfect cellphone muffler

It could happen on a train, in a restaurant or during an awe-inspiring aria (咏叹调) at a performance of “”Carmen””: A neighbor’s cellphone starts bleating (叫 / 响) the theme song from “”Friends,”” disrupting the mood and setting nerves on edge. Wouldn’t it be great, you think to yourself, if this couldn’t happen? Others are thinking likewise, including companies and researchers developing or already selling devices that render cellphones inoperable (无法运作)in certain locations. Methods include jammers (干扰发射台)that interfere with the phones’ frequencies, routing systems that mute their ringers in specific places, sensors that detect active cellphones and building materials that block cellphone waves.
